The Transitions (young adults ages 18–30) group met once again in November for the second annual Friendsgiving and third camp winterizing using the wisdom passed down from Tom Neuenfeldt. This gathering brought together twelve young adults and seven facility supervisors (and two little helpers!) to put camp to rest for the winter, the young adults successfully shut down unused buildings at Almont New Church Assembly. With three major buildings going into hibernation, it becomes very important to ensure they are shut down correctly so, come opening, pipes are still intact and able to handle summer rentals. With the many dedicated hands that arrived Friday night, it took just a couple of hours of work to accomplish the desired goals. Jeff Oelker and Craig Carson walked in and showed up just in time to inspect our work. Teen Lilly C. joined us to help with childcare so those in our age group with small children could assist and enjoy a deserved rest. This left the rest of Saturday and Sunday morning to enjoy the love that Almont brings when we are together. With the free time afterwards, a trip to the local store in town was made to grab winter apparel, hygiene needs, and food items to offer towards the new and improved “blessing box” that Facility Manager Lori Patana had acquired just prior to our group arriving with photos showing our contributions on the Almont Facebook page. After we returned, we sat down to have a delicious meal with many yummy dishes, such as an Italian wedding soup and Ramen salad made by Heather Oelker, and other popular Thanksgiving staples made by Tammara Mounce and others. We sat down and gave thanks to our ability to give back and enjoyed the time we had together.
